August

Feast of St. Dominic (August 8)

Held in the town of Valletta, the Feast of St. Dominic is another important religious celebration. The event features processions, band music, and fireworks, centered around the church dedicated to St. Dominic. It’s an occasion for the local community to come together and celebrate their faith and traditions.

Santa Marija Week (August 10-17)

Apart from the main Feast of the Assumption on August 15, the week leading up to this date, known as Santa Marija Week, is filled with various celebrations. These include religious processions, fireworks, concerts, and community gatherings across several towns. The main highlights are in the town of Mosta, famous for its Rotunda church and the dramatic fireworks displays.

Fireworks Spectacular (August 14)

Mqabba is renowned world-wide for its impressive fireworks displays, adding a dazzling and colorful spectacle to the already vibrant Festa atmosphere, which runs from 9th till 15th of August. Fireworks are an integral part of Mqabba heritage, eagerly anticipated by locals and visitors alike.

The Fireworks Spectacular pyro-musical display is held on 14th August which is the eve of the Feast of Santa Marija, where the night sky becomes a canvas, illuminated by breathtaking lights and colors.

Feast of the Assumption (August 15)

The Feast of the Assumption, locally known as “Santa Marija,” is one of the most important religious events in Malta. Celebrated with great fervor, the feast is marked by processions, fireworks, band marches, and street parties. The most notable celebrations take place in the towns of Mosta, Mqabba, Qrendi, Gudja, Ghaxaq, and Victoria (Gozo). The highlight is the procession of the statue of the Virgin Mary through the decorated streets, accompanied by the local band​​.

Malta Airshow (TBA)

The Malta International Airshow, held at the Malta International Airport and over the St. Paul’s Bay area, is a significant event for aviation enthusiasts. Featuring aircraft from various countries, the airshow includes static displays and dynamic aerial performances. Military jets, acrobatic teams, and vintage planes showcase their skills in breathtaking displays, attracting large crowds.

The Victory Day Regatta (September 8)

Victory Day commemorates the end of the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, the end of the French occupation in 1800, and the armistice of World War II in 1943. The day is marked by the traditional regatta held in the Grand Harbour, where teams from different Maltese towns compete in rowing races. Celebrations also include parades, fireworks, and cultural events, particularly in Senglea, Cospicua, and Vittoriosa.

Independence Day (September 21)

The 21st of September in Malta coincides with Malta Independence Day, a momentous occasion commemorating Malta’s declaration of independence from British colonial rule in 1964.

Take That – The Greatest Weekend (October 17-20)

Legendary group Take That announced they will be coming to Malta for the “The Greatest Weekend”. Events will range from live concerts to nightclub events and will also feature two headline sets from the iconic multi-platinum band and other huge artists who will perform in an intimate environment but with a full scale production.

Feast of The Immaculate Conception (December 8)

On the 8th of December, Malta celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a significant religious and cultural event observed with great reverence across the island. Students at GV Malta can immerse themselves in the solemn yet festive atmosphere as Malta’s towns and villages come alive with religious processions and traditional rituals.

Republic Day (December 13)

On the 13th of December, Malta proudly celebrates Republic Day, a significant national holiday marking the anniversary of the country’s transition to a republic in 1974. Students at GV Malta have the opportunity to join in the patriotic festivities and witness the vibrant celebrations that unfold across the island. In Valletta, the capital city, flag-raising ceremonies, parades, and cultural performances take center stage, with dignitaries and citizens alike coming together to honor Malta’s sovereignty and democratic ideals.
